Room Selection Process

Who Is Eligible

Room Selection is open to currently enrolled resident or commuter students at Thomas (not including Pathways enrolled students or those who have not yet graduated from High School) looking to live in campus housing for the following year.

Students currently studying abroad/on internship:

  • May participate in the Housing Room Selection.
  • Must submit Housing Agreement and indicate who will be selecting a room on their behalf via email if unable to attend.

Student Housing Selection Form

All returning students intending to make a room selection must fill out this form and list their intended roommates. This form is only for returning students, not entering first-years.

This form will be made available prior to room selection each spring semester.

SFS and Health Center Requirements

All students wishing to participate in Room Selection must be in good standing with the SFS office and have a balance below $200. They must also have all immunization records (a state requirement) up to date and be in good standing with the Health Center. If you are unsure of either of these two requirements, you should meet with these offices prior to the deadline to be sure you are all set. You must be in good standing with SFS and have your immunization records on file by 4:00 p.m. on March 24, 2023.

FAQs Regarding Room Selection

Can I stay in my current room/suite (squat the room/suite)?

No, ALL students must participate in the Room Selection process.

What if I am currently a commuter and want to live on campus in the fall?

Commuter students simply need to fill out the housing selection form to participate in the Room Selection process and meet all eligibility requirements list above.

How does Room Selection work?

Students will be given a score that will create the selection order. Scores are based on credits earned by March 24, 2023. A more in-depth explanation will be provided at the Housing Selection Process meetings.

How many roommates do I need to select into a room?

To select into a Village triple, you must have three people total. For a Village double, you must have two people.

What if I would like a single room for next year?

There are multiple single room spaces available within Bartlett Hall and the Townhouse Suites.

What if it is just me?

No problem! There are two “single room” suites in Bartlett (one for Men+ and one for Women+) that students can select into a room only (double with a roommate or a single room by yourself).

How will students select into the suites in Bartlett Hall or the Townhouses?

Students can select space within a suite based on their Room Selection order.

Bartlett: If you are selecting a suite you will need to fill all the beds in the suite.  This will be 7 people, 2 doubles, and 3 singles.  COED selection is permitted, with rooms remaining gender specific.

Townhouse: If you are selecting a townhouse, you will have two options this year.

  1. Fill all 8 beds.
  2. Fill 4 beds on a single floor.

COED selection is permitted, with rooms remaining gender specific in option number 1.

Can I select into GPH?

Yes, but space is limited! It is recommended that students come into Room Selection with a few options for housing so that they are not caught off guard if their first – or a second choice is not available.

Will suites or any Thomas College housing be co-ed or single sex?

All rooms are single gender. Bartlett and Townhouse suites may be co-ed by suite.

How is class status determined for Room Selection?

Class status will be determined based on credits earned as of March 24, 2023. We will obtain this list from the Registrar’s Office. If you are unsure of your status, go into the TC Infonet and choose #1 from the menu. This will provide your student information including your current status based on grad hours earned. Please note that Room Selection is not open to Pathways Students or students taking classes at Thomas who have not yet graduated from High School.

Classification for Room Selection is as follows:

Seniors – 90+ credits

Juniors – 60-89 credits

Sophomores – 30-59 credits

Freshmen – 0-29 credits

If I am a two-year student, what is my status?

If you entered in Fall 2022 in a 2-year program, you are most likely a freshman status. Status for all students will be determined based on credits earned as of March 2023.

Am I required to be on a meal plan?

ALL students living in the residence halls are required to be on a college meal plan.

How are CA suites in Bartlett Hall and the Townhouses designated?

CA’s will have the option to fill their suites in Townhouse and Bartlett.  This will occur prior to housing selection.

What if I cannot attend the Room Selection Process?

Roommate groups need to have 75% of the group available and the students who cannot attend must email Jim Delorie ([email protected]) notify that their group is picking on their behalf.

What if I do not participate in Room Selection, will I get a room?

Any student who does not participate in Room Selection on the specified dates may fill out the housing selection form and will be allowed to select a room based on availability once first year students have been placed.

Note: Think carefully about this before selecting your room for the fall. All Room Selections made during the Room Selection process are FINAL. If for some reason you need to request a room change, you may submit a written request to the Residential Life and Housing Office following Room Selection in April and before May 1 for consideration before new students are placed. These changes cannot be guaranteed. After this date, room changes may occur in the fall by working through the Residence Life staff using the Request for Room Change Procedure.
